Walking=8-15 miles per day [low end of the range for large armies or heavily armored soldiers, especially if they are carrying a pack; elite soldiers surely would be capable of marching 20 miles per day, but the army might not cover more than 8 to 15 miles]

Riding (horses)=20-30 miles per day; 30-40 or a lot more if an experienced rider has access to multiple remounts (i.e., a royal messenger)

Ships=3-4 knots per hour in good winds (long periods of calm or minimal winds common in long voyages; waiting for favorable wind was common)

Rentals of riding horses, pack horses or mules, carts or wagons and horses or oxen were possible in large cities and towns.

Larger polities established messenger stations for remounts. These buildings usually were near inns.

Some carters ran fairly large enterprises, and they could be hired to move households or supply an army.
