Overview: Due to Duke Aidan of Ravenwood’s role as the Republic’s first army commander, the Republic adopted his plan for the army. He used a slightly modified version of Ravenwood’s tables of organization, which were the result of his father’s reforms, for the Republic’s military.

With General Johanson’s help, Duke Aidan was rebuilding Ravenwood’s army as the first and second campaigns against the Tiberian Empire unfolded. He brought several large contingents of mercenaries back to Ravenwood from the Southern Continent, and a large portion of his early efforts were merging some of those mercenaries into the Republic’s First and Second Divisions.

Infantry TOE

Ravenwood uses a divisional structure. Each division is composed of three or four regiments, with supporting units, so a full-strength division typically numbers somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000 soldiers. The infantry company is generally around 150 to 200 men, or roughly the number that the commander can know well as individuals. A battalion is a group of companies—typically four or five companies. A regiment is typically three or four battalions, usually around 2,700 to 3,300 soldiers.

Cavalry TOE

Ravenwood uses line cavalry regiments and retinues of lords, knights, and men-at-arms. A regiment typically numbers 554 men (~30 officers and ~524 troopers) under the command of a colonel, organized in 3 squadrons of 3 troops, with a senior captain or captain commanding the squadrons. A troop is typically 2-3 small units of 20 troopers and a lieutenant. A headquarters troop of 2 small units, a quartermaster, and several other officers and non-commissioned officers served as the unit’s headquarters. The Southern Republic will normalize and regularize the line regiments in its tables of organization.
