The Kingdom of Khartras

Overview: The Kingdom uses the legion as its main large combat unit. A legion is typically 6,000 soldiers, with 10 cohorts of 600 men, plus a small squadron (120) of scout cavalry. A depot cohort typically trains replacements, but it does not deploy with the legion. Each century of 100 soldiers is commanded by a centurion, and the centurions advance through a hierarchy of seniority. A general commands the legion, and the general is assisted by two brigadier generals and seven adjutants, giving the legion an actual strength of 6,130 men. The Kingdom also has auxiliary cohorts of cavalry, archers, crossbowmen, and marines, with some typically attached to legion’s or garrison fortresses. Independent cohorts of light and heavy cavalry are attached to garrisons, legions, and armies, as needed. The retinues of lords and bannerets supply most of the heavy cavalry. Lords, knights, their squires, and their men-at-arms round out the mixture of available forces.
